Dr Kristian Coomaraswamy (Kris Coomar)

Dr. Kris Coomar is a broadly experienced paediatric dentist registered in Australia and the UK. Kris grew up just down the road from the practice and later moved to the UK to do his dental training. He attained his dental degree from the University of Wales College of Medicine in 1999 and subsequently worked for several years at Cardiff Dental Hospital (in various specialties). Kris then went on to work in general dental practice, the community dental service, and an outreach teaching clinic (training undergraduate dental students) in South Wales.

Kris moved to England in 2005, where he joined the University of Birmingham as a clinical lecturer in paediatric dentistry. He completed his specialist training in paediatric dentistry in 2009 and became an academic consultant at Birmingham Dental Hospital in 2012. Kris also completed a PhD in 2016.

Later that year, Kris moved back to Melbourne and spent a year working as a specialist at the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne. After joining Just Kids Dental Care, Kris split his time between private practice and working as a specialist at the Royal Dental Hospital Melbourne.

Kris’ real passion is serving his patients and helping them restore and maintain good oral health, whilst having some fun in the process! With over two decades of experience in paediatric dentistry, Kris has developed special interests in dental trauma, endodontics, and orthodontics. Aside from his clinical interests, Kris has had a long commitment to teaching within his specialty, and has been involved with the training of dental nurses, dental therapists, undergraduate dentists, and postgraduate trainees in paediatric dentistry.

*UPDATE: Dr Kris has left the practice for an ‘upgrade’ (August 2025 – September 2028) and has returned to Cardiff University to do orthodontic specialty training. He intends to subsequently return to Just Kids Dental Care and offer a more comprehensive service to our patients.
